The New Year is quickly approaching and with it comes all sorts of change. Year after year, each of us is guilty of setting resolutions that we can’t bring ourselves to keep. Here are our “S-M-A-R-T” tips on how to stay motivated and set attainable resolutions that will be easy to achieve!
- Be SPECIFIC
A resolution that is too general = way overwhelming. Be precise in what you want to accomplish. Whether if it’s finishing a book you’ve been meaning to read or taking a pottery class – you’re more likely to get it done if you know exactly what you want rather than if your resolution is something vague like to “read more” or “try something new”.
- Make it MANAGEABLE
How long will it take to achieve your resolution? Make sure that it is something that you are capable of completing in a set time frame.
- Is it ATTAINABLE?
Ask yourself if your resolution is attainable. Do you have everything you need to reach your goal? If your resolution is to climb Mt. Everest you might want to start with something small before you hit the big stuff.
- Be REALISTIC
Know your limits and your strengths. Don’t bite off more than you can chew and then feel responsible to see it through. Listen to your body and to what it is telling you. While it’s great to push yourself to your full potential, it’s important to make sure you’re taking care of yourself in the process.
- Take your TIME
Make a schedule and evaluate your progress. This will help you see where you started and keep you motivated to achieve your goal!
- Bonus: It’s all about YOU!
Remember that you can do anything you set your mind to, and if you ever feel like you’re stuck just repeat to yourself “I won’t compromise!”
