I have been plus sized my whole life. The first style rule that I was taught growing up was to wear black to look slimmer. Although that self-conscious chubby little girl did enjoy rebelling and breaking some rules, she still wanted to look thinner, so she went through years of her life wearing a solely black wardrobe. That is, before she broke the rule. One day I woke up and realized that there is so much more fun to be had when you break society’s fashion rules!
I’m breaking the misconception that “plus size women can’t wear white”. This #DareToWear is a symbol of the shackles that held me down during the years I dressed in only black. This shirtdress is the perfect way to wear the all-white look. It is classic and can be dressed up or down, and has the benefit of a tie belt to cinch your waist. It also happens to be a great piece to break the tacit rule of “no white after labour day” by wearing it layered under a bright coloured cardigan or jacket.
The most important thing is to feel beautiful and confident, no matter what other people tell you that you should or shouldn’t wear. If I continued listening to those rules, I would never have fallen in love with style, and gained the confidence and self-love that I have found through fashion. Trust me when I say this, all style rules are meant to be broken!
