Spring has sprung and so has the effortlessly chic capri pant. The great news is that Pennington’s is re-introducing the Savvy Capri and introducing other options because it is the pant that is flattering on every body. The Savvy Capri is designed with techno stretch fabric that greatly enhances the fit, and comfortably gives you the support that results in a seamless appearance. This season we have capris, available in denim, casual twill, vibrant colors, floral prints, polka dots and one of springs most popular runway trends, tribal prints.
When I think of the timeless style of the capri pant. I think of how they have been worn by some of the most iconic women in film. Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, and one of my favorite curvy icons, Marilyn Monroe. Traditionally the capri pant will always have its coming out party around this time of year. And yes they are the perfect pant to make a fabulous entrance.
The classic approach to wearing capris is a crisp white blouse tucked in, tied at the waist or button down and worn on the outside with a beautiful scarf tied at the neck. If you want to modernize this classic approach try wearing denim or solid color capris with a feminine blouse, a soft t-shirt or a crisp button down shirt in a pastel or a jewel tone. You can also layer this look with a structured blazer, a denim jacket or layering your t-shirt with a printed tank underneath. Make sure that the blazer hits you close to your high hip and that it has waist defining details for a longer appearance, shapely appearance. If the blazer is too long it will shorten your upper torso.
Make sure that any and all layering is a fitted silhouette, you should also be conscious of the lengths of your layering, you do not want to create any volume or shorten your upper torso. A bold statement necklace or a substantial pendant is a fabulous accessory for this look. And lastly do keep in mind that the length of your capris should end at the most narrow part of your calf for a longer more balanced appearance.
This seasons on trend capri pant is the tribal print. A lot of us have a fear of wearing prints, because we are concerned that they will make us appear larger or that they are just too busy. Prints that are tone on tone and vertical are curve friendly. I love this trend most when it is paired with this seasons open weaved sweaters and mid-thigh asymmetric tunics in solid colors. If you are really bold and like experimenting with textures and patterns pair this print with another tribal print in the same tone. You can also try this with floral prints. Make sure that the two prints don’t compete and that they compliment each other via color and size. This is a trend that is not for every body but if you are a confident fashionista I encourage you to experiment and have fun trying something new.
One style question that always comes up regarding the capri pant, is “What is the correct style of shoe that should be worn with capris?” There really isn’t a right or wrong it is a matter of personal taste and what looks best on you. Ballerina flats are a classic choice to wear with capris. Leather, pointy or peep toe all look pretty fab because they are very sleek. The top of your foot is bare and this enhances the exposed lower part of the leg, resulting in a more streamlined appearance. Make sure that you are wearing the correct width, you never want your feet spilling out of the sides of your ballerina flats.
Thong sandals and strappy flats will give you a similar barely there appearance. Wedges are also a very popular choice and actually one of my favorites. I suggest that you look for a wedge that has a delicate structured upper design to balance the bulk of the actual wedge. If you are opting for a really sexy glamorous look slip those feet into a demure pointy high pump or a sleek style with a kitten heel in a pop color or nude. It’s capri season, pair it with the what looks good on you and enjoy!
