Fall has always been my favorite fashion season. This is the time of year when the textures have greater dimension, the fabric is more substantial, the hues are rich and the silhouettes are more structured. This season there is a continuation of some recent trends, like prints, peplums and leggings. The return of some of the classics like oversized knits, pencil skirts and the slim legged trouser. And as always there is never a shortage of your favorite pieces in the greatest neutralizer, black. For a fuller figure attaining the soul of your style can be a seasonal challenge as trends come and go, but I am going to give you some timeless tips that will always be on trend for your figure.
LEGGINGS
First things first, leggings are not pants and should not be worn as pants. They are such a casual fashion item that they look best when they are combined with something luxe. On curvy girls leggings look best when worn with a beautiful tunic, an oversize cashmere sweater, a hi lo top (where the front comes to your hips) topped with a fabulous blazer, or under a short dress. Leggings are a comfortable fashion item but they always look best when there is ample coverage of your bottom by a beautiful top. A pair of riding boots or a suede bootie worn with your leggings and one of the above will give you a modern sophisticated finish. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different textures, such as pleather, ribbed and burn out. If you find that you need a little support under your leggings, to ensure your legs look smooth, I suggest a long leg control brief underneath for a seamless appearance.

PRINTS
if you thought that florals, tribal, animal and abstract prints died in the Spring guess again. They are living through the Fall and they are on tops, bottoms and dresses. When choosing prints for a curvy body, look for the one’s that are tonal, meaning that the print is the same color with a slight difference in the hue. Or look for a print where there is one dominant color amongst neutrals. It is also important to pair the prints with solids and neutrals. If you are fuller on the bottom and smaller on the top, I suggest wearing your prints on the top with a solid bottom. If you are smaller on the bottom and fuller on the top, I think that it’s best to do the reverse. If you are confident and really fashion forward wear your printed separates together. It’s best to mix the small with the large prints or wear a vertical pattern from head to toe to elongate your body. For a fabulous finishing touch, accent with a great belt, an oversized handbag and a statement making pair of shoes.
SWEATERS
They’re cozy, warm, thick, thin, oversized, fitted and we love them. The most asked question is how can I wear sweaters and still have a shapely silhouette. Well there are several answers to that question, because it all depends on what style of sweater you are wearing. If you are wearing a long or short cardigan it is best to keep the under layers thin and fitted. T-shirts, sheer button downs or a tank tops worn under cardigans and paired with pencil skirt or lean trousers with a belt will guarantee a shapely appearance. The density of the knit will determine how wide your belt should be. Belts are a key item to controlling and giving shape to sweaters. If you opt for a really oversized sweater, push up the sleeves so that you are not so covered up, accessorize with a long pendant necklace and keep the bottom fitted. This will also give your body a nice balanced appearance without being completely swallowed up and shapeless in your sweater. If you choose a knit that is a swing style open duster, keep it open let it move and remember to keep the layers underneath thin and close to your body. The beauty of high quality knits is wearing them with other textures such as leather, suede and denim. And yes, different textures can live in harmony and really enhance a fuller figure.

BLACK
Black is the most flattering to all figures. It is also the most versatile. It is the greatest neutralizer. Pairing it with bold colors and patterns will result in an opulent look, while mixing black tops and bottoms in different textures and accenting with mixed metal jewels, can have a striking effect. When wearing all black it is important to combine loose layers with more fitted silhouettes-wearing all black is not an excuse for all tight everything. The combination of the two silhouettes will give a delicate but comfortable edge to monochromatic dressing.
Proper underdressing is vital. A well fitted bra and control undergarments for seamless support will always have a positive effect on how you look and feel in your clothes. FALL, trends will come and go. But the key to fabulous fall dressing will always be about great underdressing, a proper fit and great harmony in terms of texture, color and layering. This is the soul of a finished look and great style. Let’s get dressed for Fall…
