When it comes to fashion, no one has been given more rules on “what not to wear” than plus-size women. We’ve been taught to hide our bodies, slim our figures, and to not draw attention to ourselves with our clothing. Like we are something meant to be hidden away, we are told to blend into society and hide our “shame” with clothing that doesn’t draw attention.
Thank goodness rules were meant to be broken, and there is no one more worthy to break these fashion rules than the beautiful, confident, and powerful plus-size women of today. Fashion isn’t about what your body looks like; it’s about what you’re wearing, how you’re styled, and what you want to say and express to the world.
When I saw this absolutely gorgeous Melissa McCarthy kimono at Penningtons in a bold, floral print with bright tropical colours, I was completely enchanted. It’s the kind of piece that demands attention and makes a bold statement. Anyone walking by would be compelled to look at whoever was donning this gorgeous piece.
Daring to wear bold patterns and bright colours throws everything we have previously been taught out the window. It’s our time now to take center stage when it comes to fashion, with all eyes purposely on us; and my, what a fabulous view it is!
