Whitney Thore, star of TLC’s My Big Fat Fabulous Life, is the kind of woman that makes an impression. The fearless star of one of 2014’s most viral videos “A Fat Girl Dancing”, she’s spreading the message that you can be fat, fit and fabulous. It’s so rare that we see portrayals of plus-size women being active without it being tied to weight loss. When Whitney dances, she dances for herself, because it’s something she enjoys and, if her videos are any indication, something she rocks at!
How Whitney Way Thore Is Challenging Stereotypes of Plus-Size Women
Curvy Girls Got Moves Too
Curvy women aren’t often shown enjoying being active. Whitney Way Thore shows that not only can curvy girls move, but that they can groove too! She has danced for years and, as you can see in this video, all that hard work has totally paid off! Not only does she own some pretty complex choreography, but she’s got the attitude and stage presence that makes her the total performer package.
Being Curvy Doesn’t Mean You’re Insecure
Whitney isn’t afraid to stand up to negativity. She’s not one to let people tell her who she is or who she should be. In her show, and in real life, she responds to criticism and anger with confidence and unwavering positivity.
“I am unwaveringly ME; and the same goes for YOU. No matter what you’re struggling with, embrace what you have to offer, love yourself right this minute and start affecting positive change for yourself and others.”

Just Say No To “BS” (Body Shame)
Whitney has started the “No Body Shame” campaign, promoting size diversity and self acceptance. Here’s what the “NO BS” campaign means to her:
A movement that knows positive change can’t start or be sustained until you are truly kind to yourself from the inside out. A movement that reaches even further – and aims to show that your body doesn’t have to limit you, whether it be deemed “too skinny,” “too fat,” or “too broken.” A movement that asserts that you don’t need society’s permission to seek your joy right now.
