Some fashion rules were made to be broken. The idea that you can only wear certain things is one that is, thankfully, rapidly changing. Fierce fabulous fatshionistas are showing the world on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram that style comes in all sizes. It’s hard to break from the mold, especially when these “rules” have reinforced over and over again in the media, but once you do, you’ll love the feeling of liberation.
For 2015, we’ve got some rules that we think need to be broken so that you can have a fashionable, body-confident new year!
BREAK THESE RULES
YOU CAN’T WEAR BODY CON IF YOU’RE NOT A PERFECT HOURGLASS
The only thing you need to wear a body con style dress is body confidence! This figure-hugging style puts your curves front and center and is a great way to show off your shape! If you’re a little nervous about wearing this daring style, layer with a shawl cardi for some added coverage.
YOU CAN’T MIX PRINTS
Not only can you mix prints, but doing so marks you as a true trend-watcher. A great tip for beginning to mix prints is to stay within the same colour family for a tone-on-tone look.
THICK KNITS MADE YOU LOOK BIGGER
Many women avoid thick, cozy knits because they’re afraid that this super-cozy style will make them look bigger. Blame the term “chunky sweater”, a not-so-flattering moniker that conjures up visions of bulky styles in heavy, scratchy wool. Today’s innovations in knits means that the look is lighter than ever before and, paired with the right pant, very flattering. It’s all about proportion!
EMBELLISHMENTS ARE ONLY FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Sequins and sparkle aren’t just for when there’s snow on the ground! These festive accents are great all year long. The key to wearing embellishments after the holiday is a hi-low pairing. Mix a bejeweled sweater with denim or layer a shimmering top under a jean jacket. The important thing to remember is that there’s never a bad time to shine.
