Blue is the “It” colour of the season. From periwinkle, navy, placid to cool cobalt or dazzling blue, it is the perfect alternative to black, white or camel, which are considered the classic neutrals. Blue is easy to wear and there is a shade that is complimentary to every skin tone. You can mix it with other shades, or pump it up with jewel tones, prints or pastels. And whether you choose to wear a classic silhouette or something more on trend I have a few tips to keep you fashionably blue.
The classic blue button down shirt is the anchor to your favorite pants, skirts or suits. Chambray or deep navy blue, this classic shirt never looses its multi-purpose appeal. The beauty of this shirt is that it can be styled to look very utilitarian or elegant. I say lets give this functional silhouette a hip 2014 makeover. I suggest wearing this shirt loosely tucked at the waist, with your favorite jeans or a skirt. Open a few buttons to make room for a statement necklace. Or, if you feel like you still need to add more jewelry, I would try wearing a watch with an interesting bezel and a sculpted ring. To finish this new blue look add a cross body color blocked bag, or an oversized bag in a vibrant color.
The blue remix with solids and prints is eye catching and on trend, without being too much. But if you dare to be too much I suggest that you amp up this ensemble with another jewel tone and metallic accessories. Try wearing a pair of kelly green pumps and carrying a gold metallic clutch or vice-versa. Have fun experimenting with bold color combos and textures that look modern. If you are a bit more practical but you do enjoy some of the season’s trends, then I think that you should pair this look with the more classic neutrals, and simple but modern accessories.
The blue suit is a fabulous alternative to a black suit. This tonal head to toe ensemble is sleek and flattering. You can bring the noise by wearing it with a beautiful chiffon printed blouse or with your favorite pop colour t-shirt. You can also wear this suit with a white top or shirt if you prefer a nautical aesthetic. But, if you want to keep it simple and chic wear it with your favorite black top and a belt or two. A belt is a fabulous way to accent your curves and embellish the look. The finish is always an amazing bag, and this color blocked mini satchel will make a statement with whatever you choose to pair it with.
Blue is causing quite a stir this season, and after a long winter covered in grey, black and brown it’s a friendly hue that I totally welcome. Some of my favorite silhouettes and accessories are in this beautiful color. Lets enjoy it by pairing it with bright colors, prints and bold accessories. As you can see I am feeling blue and I hope that you are too.
